Urban Farm
Adjacent to the San Antonio Food Bank's warehouse facility is their urban farm. This farm grows year round and features a variety of crops including: onions, watermelons, cantaloupes, potatoes, sweet potatoes, strawberries, and much, much more. Produce grown in this farm makes its way back in the community to nourish the hungry.
- Temp check upon arrival: All volunteers will be given a no-touch temp check upon arrival.
- Masks are optional for vaccinated guests. Unvaccinated guests must wear masks in all Food Bank facilities when they are around others. Masks are optional for outdoor volunteer activities.
- Closely Monitoring Personal Health – We ask that if you are feeling sick, you cancel your registration and come back after you are certain you have no symptoms nor contracted COVID-19.
Check In
Please arrive at least 10 minutes before your shift starts so that you have adequate time to check in. Please bring only what you need. The Food Bank is not responsible for anything that is lost or stolen.
As the Food Bank continues to provide essential services to the community, we understand that those who choose to volunteer with us may put themselves in increased risk as first-responders. We encourage each volunteer to evaluate their own personal health prior to volunteering and that you review all recommended safety precautions as a first-responder volunteer.
Policies
Health and Food & Drink
The San Antonio Food Bank is a smoke free campus. Volunteers who are sorting food must have no apparent illnesses. Cuts, abrasions and burns on hands and exposed are bandaged properly and hands are covered with disposable gloves. Food, drinks, chewing gum or chewing tobacco are not allowed in the sorting area.
Photos, Filming and Media
The San Antonio Food Bank invites you to share your volunteer experience through photos and filming. Selfies are encouraged! Because we provide confidential services which include minors, individuals with disabilities and an incarcerated population, it is imperative that a request to film and professionally photograph your volunteer experience be submitted prior to your scheduled time. Any individual or production company that wants to shoot professional video footage must obtain prior authorization from the Communications Department by calling (210) 431-8474. For safety purposes, at no time is filming permitted in the warehouse without prior consent and approval. The San Antonio Food Bank reserves the right to refuse any shoot request.
We Need You!
Join us as we reach into our community to feed the hungry.
For I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty, and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in.
